September 7

Eleanor Coffin, our regular contact at the condo, has returned today and checked out our place.  She reports all OK.  A small amount of water may have blown through the front door but it was dry and left only a little dirt.

Also a small lizard seems to have taken refuge from the storm.

Now we have Ivan to watch

September 6

Well, it seems like the condo got through Frances OK.

I've talked to "Earl", the resident "knowledgeable" neighbour.  He's 84 and quite a character.

He said most everyone left the condo at the first warning of Frances, but he and a couple of others rode "her" out.  He said he's seen worse, but only when he was aboard a Liberty ship in  a typhoon during the 2nd World War.  Worst he's seen in Florida, though.

He said he'd never leave his home during a storm.  He's got a propane stove and lantern and batteries for his radio.  Power went out Saturday at 3, and hasn't returned.

Anyway, when I finally got him to talk about the condo condition, he related that the iron railing on the 4th floor walkway was twisted about and he and another had to tie it down to keep it from falling into the parking lot.  There is a little roof leakage around the latter opening going to the roof and that is about all, except for a few trees that may have suffered their last.

All good news!  I asked him to try to get a key to go into our unit to see if any rain got blown in.  He won't be able to get a key for a few days as the "key keeper" evacuated with the rest.

Quite a character, Earl.  It's good to have him on-site.
